The first thing we do when we get a new phone or tablet is purchase a phone tablet case for it. Some people want cases for protection, while others simply want their devices to stand out from the crowd. 

Is the extra layer of bulk on your phone, however, necessary? 

Tablet cases are ideal for people who have spent a lot of money on their tablets and want to protect them as much as possible. Folio cases allow users to use their tablet as if it were a book. The tablet can be slid into the cover and is protected on all sides.

If you are a careless person who frequently drops your device, please get yourself a case because dropping and smashing an expensive item is not a wise thing to do. However, keep in mind that not all phone & tablet cases could really safeguard your device from a fall. Thin and hard cases, while effective at preventing scratches, cannot protect your device from the consequences of being dropped.

Soft materials are the only ones that can absorb impact energy. Cases that only cover the back of your device will not help you if it falls with the screen facing down. So, unless you use the proper casing that can absorb shock and cover the front, the protection you gain is likely to be limited to external scratches.
